The Legal Lion of the Commonwealth: Judgments Vols. 1 & 2

$90.00

Lauded by the British Press as The Legal Lion of the Commonwealth, His Lordship Justice Eusoffe Abdoolcader’s writings and interpretation of the law have withstood the test of time.

Hailed and renowned as works of Literature, his judgments merge law, Latin, ancient mythology, history and social commentary with his trademark wit and candour. He is the third son of renowned barrister Sir Dr. Husein Abdoolcader, Malaya’s first Indian knight dubbed by King George VI and Penang’s longest-serving lawyer.

Described as ‘deadly in cross-examination’, he was elevated to the Bench in the 70s. His incisive knowledge of the law, coupled with a photographic memory, made lawyers and witnesses shiver and whither before him.

Presiding over landmark constitutional cases in Malaysia, his rulings set precedence for other landmark cases throughout the Commonwealth and, until today, are frequently mentioned/quoted in international law journals. These include Malaysia’s then longest-running criminal trial, the Datuk Harun Idris case involving the historic Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Bugner boxing match in Kuala Lumpur, the Merdeka University trial, and his dissenting judgment in Government of Malaysia v. Lim Kit Siang.

Immortalised in this two-volume edition is the first-ever collection of his oral and written judgments plus his exposition on the American doctrine of police powers. Includes tributes, photos, vintage newspaper clippings and a rare exclusive interview with the man himself.

This book is the first in a series of publications about the Abdoolcaders, originating out of a 12-year research project undertaken by Akasaa Publishing and Avec.
